Shulman, Lev Vladimirovich

Lev Vladimirovich Shulman (September 13, 1960, Sverdlovsk) - cultural trader, producer of modern dance, director and playwright.

Creative and organizational activities

In 1989 he created one of the first professional contemporary dance companies in Russia, “Provincial Dances,” which he directed until the end of 1993. During the leadership of the company L. Shulman, the theater’s duet received the Grand Prix at the Fifth International Dance Competition in Paris (1992).

In 2004, he created a professional company of modern dance "Design Bureau" TANTSREST ", which was based on graduates of the School of Modern Dance of the Yekaterinburg Center for Contemporary Art.

From 1990 to the present, he has performed more than thirty contemporary dance performances, three of which were nominated for the Golden Mask National Theater Award , as a producer, creative producer, director and playwright.

In 1994 he created the Yekaterinburg Center for Contemporary Art (ECCI). From the moment of its foundation to its closure in 2007, he was its director.

During its existence, the Center has implemented more than 100 projects in various fields of contemporary art. Among these projects: 1. Exhibition “German video art. Retrospective 1970-1990. "; 2. F. Schlendorf Film Festival; 3. Five ADF workshops; 4. International festival “Silent Cinema - Live Music” / According to the rating of the magazine “Newsweek / Results”, this festival was named among the most important events in the cultural life of Russia that took place from 1991 to 1996 /; 5. International festival of modern dance “DANCE” / Russian platform of the international competition of choreographers “Rencontre Choregraphiques Internationales de Seine-Saint-Denis”; 6. Festival of British Contemporary Dance "Trajectory"; 7. The Netherlands Contemporary Art Festival in Yekaterinburg; 8. International summer dance school “Small World”.

In 1996, he created the School of Contemporary Dance at the Yekaterinburg Center for Contemporary Art.

In 2001, he created the Faculty of Modern Dance at the Humanitarian University of Yekaterinburg, whose dean was for three years. This faculty is Russia's first experience in creating a faculty of modern dance in the system of university education.

2008 - 2011 - creator and leader of the unique project "Green House" - School of modern dance in one of the orphanages in St. Petersburg.

Member of the jury of the Golden Mask National Theater Award (2004); competition of young choreographers (St. Petersburg, 2004, 2005); member of the jury of festivals and dance competitions (St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Noyabrsk, Novgorod, Pskov, Yaroslavl). Chairman of the jury of the festivals “Fox” (Saransk, 2004), “Wind of Changes” (Ufa, 2014). Member of the expert council of the project of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation "Debuts of young choreographers" (2013,2014,2015).

Teaching

2008 - 2009 - Guest Lecturer, Department of Choreography, St. Petersburg State Conservatory.

Since 2009 - visiting lecturer at the Danish National School of Contemporary Dance (Copenhagen).

Since 2012 - visiting lecturer at Tallinn University and Tulane University (New Orleans, USA).

Prizes and Awards

2002 - Diploma of the “Bravo!” Prize from the Ministry of Culture of the Sverdlovsk Region and the Yekaterinburg branch of the Union of Theater Workers of the Russian Federation for the projects “Festival of Contemporary Art of the Netherlands” and “Festival of British Contemporary Dance“ Trajectory ”.

2005 - Sergey Diaghilev Prize at the competition of the best production projects of the International Festival "Diaghilev Seasons".

2005 - Prize to them. Evgenia Panfilova IFMC International Festival of Contemporary Choreography (Vitebsk).

2006 - prize “Soul of Dance” of the editors of the Russian magazine “Ballet” in the nomination “Knight of Dance” (Moscow).
