Cryptoholcocerus mongolicus (lat.) - a species of butterflies from the family of woodworms of the infraorder of diverse wings , the only one in the genus Cryptoholcocerus . Central and Central Asia: Afghanistan , Kazakhstan , Kyrgyzstan , Pakistan , Tajikistan , Uzbekistan , northwestern China . Fore wing 2-3 cm long, grayish brown. It differs from related genera by the color of the wing (the development of the pattern on the underside of the wings, the pronounced spotted pattern on both wings), the structural features of the male genitalia (the weak development of the structure on the costal edge of the valva, the structure of the juxta, which is a small scallop). Adults fly at altitudes from 400 to 3750 m in June-August [2] .

The species was previously included in the genus Cossus (called Cossus mongolicus ), but in 2006, Russian lepidopterologist Roman Viktorovich Yakovlev ( Altai State University , Barnaul ) was isolated in the monotypic genus Cryptoholcocerus . The species was first described in 1882 by the Russian lepidopterologist Nikolai Grigoryevich Ershov [2] .
