The seventeenth government of Israel was formed by Yitzhak Rabin on June 3, 1974 , after the resignation of Golda Meir on April 11 and the election of Rabin as the leader of the Avoda party on April 26. This was the first time that the Israeli government was headed by a native Israeli (although Rabin was born during the British mandate in Palestine , until independence in 1948) [1] .
The government was coalitional, but relied on the support of only 61 Knesset deputies out of 120 ( Maarah , MAPAM factions, two affiliated parties of Israeli Arabs - Progress and Development and the Arab List for Bedouins and Peasants , Independent Liberals Party , and Ratz . It was the first government coalition in Israeli political history to not include a religious party. This state lasted until October 30, when MAFDAL joined the coalition, as a result of which the coalition received the support of 71 Knesset deputies, but on November 6 the Rat party left the coalition [2] . During the formation of the government, Rabin abolished the post of Minister of Development [3] [4] .
The government was dissolved by Rabin on December 22, 1976 after MAFDAL representatives abstained from voting on a clear Saturday violation during a ceremony at the Israeli Air Force base [2] . All ministers from MAFDAL resigned on December 22, and the government worked without them in the status of an interim government until the formation of the eighteenth government after the 1977 Knesset elections . However, after the political scandal with a secret bank account of I. Rabin and his wife Rabin announced on April 6, 1977, that he would resign. Defense Minister Shimon Peres was unanimously elected his successor. Since Israeli law prohibits the resignation of the head of the interim government, Perez acted as prime minister unofficially. [5]
