Benda, Jan (hockey player)

Jan Benda ( Czech Jan Benda ; April 28, 1972 , Riet , Belgium ) is a German hockey player of Czech origin. Amplitude - striker. He has participated in eight World Championships, the World Cup (1996) and the Winter Olympic Games (1994, 1998, 2002) as part of the German national team.

Biography

Benda's parents are from Czech Litvinov . At one time, they moved to Belgium , where Jan was born. Then the family moved to Germany , to Essen .

Career

Benda began his career in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) for the Oshawa Generals team, where he played along with future NHL stars such as Eric Lindros , Jason Arnott , and Stefan Yell . He later spent two seasons in the German Championship. In the 1994/95 season, he played in the ECHL league. From 1995 to 1997 he spent in the Czech Republic. In the 1997/98 season, he played in the AHL for the Washington Capitals farm club. For the main team he played only 9 matches, gaining 3 assists. From 1998 to 2001, he played in the SM League for the teams “ Essat ” and “ Jokerit ”. From 2001 to 2004 he played for the Kazan “ Ak Bars ”. On March 30, 2002, in a 1/2 finals match against Vanguard, Jan Benda scored a winning shootout, thereby providing Ak Bars with a ticket to the championship finals. In the 2004/05 season, Benda played at the Resurrection Chemist and Severstal. From 2005 to 2011 he played in the Czech Extra League. In 2011 he returned to Germany.

June 12, 2018 completed the career of a player at the age of 46.
