Edvardas Stasevich Kanyava ( lit. Edvardas Kaniava ; born July 1, 1937 , Klaipeda , Lithuania ) - Lithuanian Soviet singer ( baritone ), teacher, public and political figure. People's Artist of the USSR ( 1979 ).

Biography

Edwardas Kanyava was born on July 1, 1937 in Klaipeda , Lithuania .

In 1954 he graduated from the Kaunas Komsomol High School (now Kaunas Gymnasium "Dawn"). In the same year he entered the Veterinary Academy (now the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences in Kaunas), hoping to go to a medical institute without an exam a year later, but after two semesters of study he chose a conservatory [1] .

In 1960 he graduated from the Lithuanian Conservatory (now the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater ) ( Vilnius ) with P.M. Oleks.

From 1958 to 1993 - soloist of the Lithuanian Opera and Ballet Theater ( Vilnius ) [2] .

In 1966 - 1967 he trained at the Sofia Opera House ( Bulgaria ).

He performed in concerts (the repertoire includes works by Russian, Soviet and foreign composers, including the vocal cycles of D. B. Kabalevsky and G. Mahler ).

Toured abroad. He has performed in more than 70 countries of the world [3] .

Since 1979 he taught at the Lithuanian Conservatory (since 1981 - associate professor, since 1988 - professor), in 1989 - 1992 - head of the vocal department [4] .

In 1993 - 1994 - Professor of Singing at the Academy of Music in Caracas ( Venezuela ).

Since 1994 - professor at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater. Since 2005 , he taught vocal at the Faculty of Arts at the University of Klaipeda , a member of the certification committee of the Faculty of Arts, a member of the Senate of the University. Chairman of the Art Council and teacher of Klaipeda Musical Theater.

He gave singing lessons at universities in St. Petersburg ( Russia ), Cologne ( Germany ).

With his student singer Dave released two albums: “Tu, kuris aukštai” and “Ave Maria”.

Since 1995 - Member of the Democratic Labor Party of Lithuania . In 2000 - 2004 - Member of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania . In 2001 - Member of the Ethics and Procedure Commission of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party . In 2004 - 2006 - Public Councilor for Culture of the Prime Minister of Lithuania Algirdas Brazauskas .
