The ninth government of Israel was formed by David Ben-Gurion on December 17, 1959 after the 1959 parliamentary elections . The government was coalitional, as the previous one, Ben-Gurion largely retained coalition partners from the previous government ( MAPAY , MAFDAL , MAPAM , Ahdut HaVoda , Progressive Party and Agriculture and Development ), including the Israeli Arab parties Progress and Development and Collaboration and fraternity .
Ben-Gurion resigned on January 31, 1961, after the Herut faction and the Party of General Zionists proclaimed a vote of no confidence in the government in connection with the publication of the conclusions of the Committee of Seven regarding the Lavon case . In late February, Ben-Gurion informed President Yitzhak Ben-Zvi that he could not form a new government [1] , after which the Knesset was dissolved in March and new elections were announced.
