The city is known as Lehvin since 1565 . In 1944, it was renamed Chekalin - in honor of the 16-year-old partisan, Hero of the Soviet Union Alexander Chekalin, who was executed here on November 6, 1941 .

The historical emblem of the district town of Likhvin of Kaluga governorship in 1777 is taken as the basis of the city emblem Chekalin.

The historical coat of arms of Likhvin was most highly approved on March 10 (21), 1777 by Empress Catherine II along with other coats of arms of the cities of Kaluga governorship (PSZ, 1777, Law No. 14596) [2] [3] [4]

The coat of arms of Likhvin was compiled by Prince M. Shcherbatov , herald-master , who from 1771 to 1778 headed the Heraldic office.

In the Soviet period, the historical coat of arms of Likhvin was not used.

On December 23, 1998, by the decision of the Assembly of representatives of the public self-government of the city of Chekalin, the historical coat of arms of Likhvin was approved as the official symbol of the city of Chekalin.

On October 29, 2004, the emblem of the municipality "Suvorovsky District of the Tula Region", which was developed by the Union of Heraldry of Russia on the basis of the historical coat of arms of Likhvin , was approved.
