Sports Biography
In 1996, Stefan Artsen made his debut at the Atlanta Summer Olympics . At a distance of 100 meters butterfly Artsen showed a result of 54.62 s and took the final 23rd place. At a distance twice as long, the Dutch swimmer was able to break into final B, where he came to the finish line fifth and took the final 13th place. In the combined relay race, the Dutch team could not make it to the finals, taking 10th place in the preliminary round.
In 1998, Artsen took part in the World Cup . And at a distance of 100 meters butterfly, and at a 200-meter Dutch athlete was able to make it only to the final B, where both times Stefan sailed to the finish line second, taking the final 10th place. In the same year, in December, Artsen became the first European champion, defeating the Dutch national team in the 4 × 50 meter freestyle relay at the short- run continental championship . In 1999, Artsen became the champion of Europe already in the 50-meter pool, winning the combined relay.
At the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Artsen performed in two disciplines. At both distances, the Dutchman was able to break into the semifinals, but he could not go further. At the 100-meter butterfly, he took the final 16th place, and at the 200-meter 14th.
In 2005, Artsen completed his sports career.
