History

An integral part of the new Palace of Culture was the building of the old factory club [1] .

The old club was built in 1924 [2] . There was no money at the plant at that time, but the administration found a way: not far from the main office there was a large fundamental warehouse [2] . He was built on the second floor and it turned out to be a spacious building, sufficient for club work [2] . A library was also opened there [2] . In 1924, the factory club was named after V. I. Lenin [2] .

At the club was created the national theater " Blue Blouse " [3] . In the 1930s, “blue-blouses” took an active part in the work of the propaganda brigade of the Lenin Club, performed satirical sketches and interludes not only in workshops, but also went to rural areas during sowing and harvesting campaigns [2] .

In 1949 the club building was reconstructed [1] , an auditorium with 500 seats was arranged [4] .

In the 1970s, under the House of Culture, the city creative association “Artist” was created, in which both amateurs and professionals were members [5] . Such authors as V. S. Orlov , A. F. Stepanenko, M. A. Novikov, K. G. Ivanov, E. A. Edelman and many others participated in the work of the association [5] .

The construction of the modern building of the Palace of Culture and Technology. V.I. Lenin was conducted from 1969 to 1975 under the project of the architect G. A. Petrov (" Rostovgrazhdanproekt "). The new reconstructed Palace of Culture opened on April 21, 1975 [1] . The square in front of the main entrance of the Palace was decorated with a light and musical fountain, decorated with copyright mosaics by V. V. Orlov [6] (mosaics were lost in the 1990s during the reconstruction of the fountain).

The total area of the recreation center is about 4000 m². This is one of the best buildings of the Rostov region of this type both in appearance and in interior layout and interior design [1] . Two three-story wings include 170 rooms, in the center - a concert hall with an area of 800 m² for 720 seats with a balcony for 250 seats. The diameter of the rotating circle of the scene is 9 meters. There was a cinema with 500 seats. In the old building of the recreation center there was a library of the trade union committee of the Taganrog Metallurgical Plant [1] .

In 2002, the building of the Palace of Culture and Technology. V.I. Lenin was transferred by the owners of the plant to the ownership of Olympus Cultural and Sports Complex LLC. From the premises of the recreation center, all the factory divisions previously located there (the trade union library, the editorial office of the factory multi-circulation newspaper "Valtsovka" and others) were withdrawn. The new tenants were a restaurant, a bank branch and a night club [7] .

Until 2007, the Palace of Culture and Technology named after V.I. Lenin was called DK "Metallurg" [8] .

In May 2014, it became known that the Olympus Cultural and Sports Complex was put up for sale [9] . The cost of the facility is announced about 170 million rubles [9] . At the same time, commercial real estate experts believe that an adequate price for this object is 70-75 million rubles, and it will be more profitable for its future owner to demolish it and build something really commercial and profitable in its place [7] . And to build, for example, a water park on the site of the stadium [7] . In October 2015, it became known that the Olympus complex was sold for 150 million rubles [10] .
