Biography
Born in the village of Novopokrovskaya now Novopokrovsky district of the Krasnodar Territory in a peasant family.
Graduated 8 classes. He worked as an agricultural technician on the collective farm. In the Red Army since 1938. In 1940 he graduated from the Kiev Military Infantry School .
Member of the Great Patriotic War since June 1941. Member of the CPSU since 1943.
The commander of the battery of the 1438th self-propelled artillery regiment (18th Tank Corps, 53rd Army , 2nd Ukrainian Front ), Lieutenant Tolstoy, in the battles for the city of Husi ( Romania ), on August 24, 1944, defeated the enemy convoy, destroying a large number of its manpower and technology.
On September 14, 1944, in the area of the city of Timisoara, the battery successfully repelled an enemy counterattack, causing great damage to the enemy.
October 8, 1944 one of the first to burst into the city of Szentes . He was wounded, but remained in the ranks.
The title of Hero of the Soviet Union was awarded on March 24, 1945.
