Hippocampus coronatus (lat.) Is a species of ray-finned fish from the needle family (Syngnathidae) [1] . It lives in the coastal waters of Japan [1] [2] [3] and South Korea [4] [5] [6] .

Content
Description
Males can reach a length of 10.8 cm [7] or 11.5 cm [8] , but most commonly occur in lengths of 6-8 cm [1] [2] [9] . Usually has 6 spines on the back [8] .
The color varies from light brown with dark patches to completely black [8] .
They feed on fish larvae and small crustaceans [10] , such as gammarids and copepods , while large individuals feed on mysids [4] [7] .
They are egg-fertilized [1] [11] , the breeding season is from July to November. The number of eggs varies from 12 to 46 [4] .
Spread
It lives in the shallow waters of the coastal zone in the northwestern part of the Pacific Ocean : from Hokkaido to Kyushu , including Tokyo Bay , and in the southern part of the coast of the Republic of Korea, including Kamakman Bay and Yosu [4] . Does not migrate [1] .
Keeps among the thickets of seagrass [2] [4] [12] . The preferred temperature is from 18 to 22 ° C [1] [13] , the depth is up to 20 meters [4] .
Application
Used in Chinese medicine [1] [14] .
