He studied in Halle with Robert Franz and in Dessau with Friedrich Schneider , then worked there as a conductor in the theater troupe of Heinrich Eduard Betman . In 1845, he took up the post of music director at the University of Jena , following the results of many years of work in this position, he was awarded the honorary doctorate by the Faculty of Philosophy. At the same time, Stade performed a lot as an organist in the city cathedral of St. Michael, especially famous for his improvisations. Since 1860, he was the court bandmaster of the Duke of Saxe-Altenburg . Under the supervision of Stade, a new opera house was erected, which opened in 1871 with Karl Maria von Weber 's free-shooter . Under the direction of Stade, a number of works by Hector Berlioz were performed in Altenburg. Since 1874, Stade has focused exclusively on organ performance. In Stade's composer's heritage, songs were most popular, he also owns symphonic and theatrical music, sonatas by Johann Sebastian Bach and Georg Friedrich Handel . Together with Rochus von Lilienkron Stade, he prepared the collection “Songs and Feathers of the Late Minnesang ” ( German: Liedern und Sprüchen aus der letzten Zeit des Minnesangs ; Weimar, 1854). Stade is named after a street in Jena .
