In 1423, he founded the House of Joy school at the court of the ruler of Mantua, Gianfranchesko I Gonzaga . Classical philology and mathematics were taught here, in the study of which visual aids and practical works were used. The physical education of the students was well delivered: the children were engaged in horse riding, gymnastics, swimming and fencing.
The training was based not on coercion and corporal punishment, but on the desire to interest children in the subjects studied, taking into account the individual characteristics of the students. Corporal punishment was allowed only for misconduct against morality.
The school was widely known. In it were accepted not only representatives of the aristocracy, but also capable immigrants from the people, both Italians and foreigners. Despite an attempt to combine humanistic ideas with the doctrines of Christianity in teaching, the school played a major role in promoting humanistic ideas and educating Renaissance figures.
He did not leave pedagogical works.
