Biography

Betty Gail Russell was born on September 21, 1924 in Chicago ( Illinois , USA ) in the family of George Russell and Gladys Russell (nee Barnet), and then she moved to Los Angeles ( California ) when she was a teenager. The extraordinary beauty of Russell brought her to the attention of Paramount Pictures in 1942 . Although Russell was almost clinically shy and had no acting experience, Paramount had great expectations for her and they hired her an acting teacher.

Career

Gail made her film debut in 1943 , playing the role of Virginia Lowry in the movie “Henry Aldrich becomes Glamorous”. Russell’s most recent film work was the role of Flor Brancato in the movie Silent Challenge, which was released 3 months before her death. In total, she played in 28 films and television series.

On February 8, 1960, Gail received a “star” on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for her contribution to the film industry [4] .

Personal life

In 1949-1954, Gail was married to actor Guy Madison (1922-1996).

Death

36-year-old Gail died on August 26, 1961 at her home in Brentwood (State of California , USA ) from a heart attack , suffering the last 11 years of life from alcoholism and subsequent destruction of the liver and malnutrition [5] [6] . Russell was buried at Valhalla Memorial Park Cemetery in North Hollywood .
