Yuri Nikolayevich Zakharuk ( Ukrainian Yuri Mikolayovich Zakharuk ; April 12, 1914 , Winnipeg - April 12, 1997 , Moscow ) - Soviet and Russian archaeologist , specialist in the history of primitive society , theory and methodology of archeology. Doctor of Historical Sciences (since 1981 ).

Biography
Born in Canada in a family of Hutsuls , who in the 1920s. moved to the USSR [1] . In 1938 he graduated from the Faculty of History of Odessa University . In 1939 - 1940 worked in the Zhytomyr Museum of Local Lore , in 1940–1941 and 1946–1948 . studied at the graduate school of the Institute of Archeology of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR . Member of World War II .
In 1949 - 1960 He worked at the Institute of Social Sciences in Lviv , in 1960-1971. - at the Institute of Archeology of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR.
In 1953 he defended his thesis on the Late Tripoli monuments of Eastern Volhynia and the Middle Dnieper .
He led a number of archaeological expeditions, in particular: "Great Kiev", Volyn- Podolsky , Volyn, Dniester . Since the 1960s focused on the development of problems of the theory and methodology of archeology.
In 1971 he moved to Moscow, where he held the post of deputy director for scientific work at the Institute of Archeology of the USSR Academy of Sciences , and since 1986 , he was a leading researcher . In 1974 - 1978 He was the deputy editor-in-chief of the journal Soviet Archeology .
In the 1980s, along with V.F. Gening , he was an active opponent of the proposals of L. S. Klein and M. V. Anikovich on a paradigm shift in archeology, which was proposed to be considered primarily as a source study [2] . In the 1990s Klein-Anikovich's point of view prevailed in post-Soviet archeology.

- The State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology ( 1977 ; for the collective monograph “ uk: Archeology of the Ukrainian RSR ” in 3 volumes, published in 1971 - 1975 ) [3] .
