“Petrel” is a Leningrad student women's basketball club. Silver medalist of the 1964 USSR Championship.

History
"Petrel" is a participant in the championship of the USSR , from the very first club championship, played in 1937. In the championships of 1938 and 1940, the team took 5th place, was 4th in 1939.
In the 1950s, Leningrad basketball players, with the exception of the “bronze” in 1953, were stable “middle peasants” in the standings, balancing between 5th and 9th places. The dawn of the team came in the 1960s of the 20th century.
Silver medalist of the USSR championship in 1964, bronze - 1961, 1968; second prize-winner of the All-Union winter competitions of 1967. He is a 4-time champion of the Central Council of the DSO (Central Council of the Voluntary Sports Society).
After the team took 4th place in 1969, the club began to decline: 1970 - 8th place, 1971 - 11th place and departure from the elite. After playing one season in the first league, Petrel returned in 1973 to the Premier League, where he finished 9th. In 1975, the team again left the elite to return back in 1978. The 1978/79 season was the last for students from Leningrad in which they competed with the strongest clubs in the USSR . Having flown out of the elite from last place, Petrel all other years, until the collapse of the USSR , played in the first league of the union championship .
“Petrel” does not participate in competitions of the Russian women's basketball.
