Story

The action takes place in Russia and Poland in the years 1598-1605. After the death of the feeble-minded Tsar Feodor Ivanovich, Boris Godunov ascended the Moscow throne by decision of the Zemsky Sobor , who, under Ivan the Terrible, with the help of intrigues, alliances and marriage of his sister Irina with Tsarevich Fedor gained great influence and power at the court. But suddenly there is a new contender for the throne - someone who pretends to be the youngest son of Grozny, Tsarevich Dimitri , who officially died in Uglich in 1591. The impostor is declared in Poland and, having received the support of Prince Vishnevetsky , Sandomierz Governor Mnishek and his daughter, the beautiful Marina , returns to Russia. Despite the fact that both the church and Vasily Shuysky , who was investigating the circumstances of the death of Dimitry in Uglich, deny the authenticity of the prince, he, approaching Moscow, is becoming increasingly popular among the people and becoming a real threat to Tsar Boris. Who is he really - a daring adventurer, a true prince or a ghost who has avenged his revenge for a long-forgotten crime?
