History

As the street is known since the 1860s [1] .

According to the assumption of the Tomsk local historian Yu. P. Fedorov, when comparing archived data, the first years of its existence, part of the current embankment of the Ushayka River, located between the Bazarny and Dumsky bridges, was the initial part of Millionnaya Street (see: Lenin Avenue ) [1] .

In 1904-1906, it was paved , while the public administration entrusted the homeowners with streets with daily cleaning of the pavement, and in the summer also with watering it [1] .

By the forces of the city, a small garden was set up near the Duma Bridge, which had fallen into disrepair by the end of the 19th century, in which it remained until 1911, when it was put in order and was given the name Hermitage. The Hermitage Garden played a significant role in the life of the city: in the summer there were restaurants with scenes at which literary and musical performances were held, and in the winter, an ice rink and slides were flooded [1] .

Since the end of the XIX century , a circus worked at the Duma (and later - Kamenny) bridge , which the city leased to various entrepreneurs . At the beginning of the 20th century, the circus of Erasmus Strepetov [1] was located in the same building, on which Durov , Lazarenko , Trutstsy came on tour . Among other things, in the Strepetov circus, performances of wrestlers [1] , including Ivan Poddubny, were held . According to some reports, the first film screenings in Tomsk were also held here. . The circus on the shore of Ushaika lasted until the first years of the Soviet period , after which it was demolished due to decay [1] .

Modernity

August 29, 2004 , to the 400th anniversary of Tomsk, a fountain complex has been built on Bazarny Bridge .
