Kingdom Hearts Character List

Sora ( ソ ラ Sora ) is the protagonist of the Kingdom Hearts series of games ^[12] . Sora is a cheerful and friendly boy from the Isle of Fate. His best friends are Riku and Cairo . When they gathered on a journey to other worlds, the Isles of Fate ( Japanese デ ス テ ィ ニ ー ア イ ラ ン ни desutini: ayrando , English Destiny Islands ) were attacked by creatures known as Heartless ( Japanese ハ ー ト レ ス ha: toresu , his heartless ) friends. Fighting with them, Sora receives the Key-Blade - a weapon to fight the darkness. On the way, Sora meets Donald Duck and Goofy , who are in search of the King . Together they travel between worlds to find Rika, Cairo and the King.

Nomura claims that the name “Sora” is taken from the Japanese language, where it is translated as “heaven” ( Japanese 空 ). Nomura specially selected this word, since he believed that it best suits his character and role in the plot. In addition, this shows his connection with his best friends, Riku and Cairo, whose names are translated from Japanese as “land” and “sea”, respectively ^{[13] [14]} .

Cairo ( カ イ リ , Kairi ) is a friend of Sora and Riku , one of the seven Princesses of the Heart . Her name is a Chinese reading of the hieroglyph “sea” ( Japanese. ) ^[13] .

In Kingdom Hearts , Cairo’s heart is inside Sora when the Heartless world attacks them. At the end of the first game, Sora learns that Cairo is one of the seven Princesses of the Heart and that all this time her heart has been inside him. Thus, Sora sacrifices herself, releasing her heart with the help of the Key-Blade and turning into Heartless, and the heart returns to Cairo. Cairo recognizes in Heartless Sora, and her light turns him back into a man. After the victory of Sora over Ansem the Seeker of Darkness, Cairo asks Sora, who went in search of the missing King and Rika, to return to the Isles of Fate as soon as possible.

In Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, Namine , the Non-existent Cairo, changes the memory of Sora, and as a result, Cairo loses her memories of it until the moment Sora awakens in Kingdom Hearts II . Cairo was abducted a little later by Axel , a former member of the XIII Organization, to lure Sora and turn him Heartless so that Axel's friend, Roxas , would be reborn. Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep shows that Cairo lived as a child in the Radiant Garden ( レ イ デ ィ ア ン ト ガ ー デ ン Radianto Ga: Dan , Radiant Garden ) . When she met with Aqua , she realized that this was the Princess of the Heart, and cast a spell on her: if Cairo was in danger, she would move to a safe place. Thus, when the Heartless attacked the Radiant Garden after the events of the game, Cairo moved to the Isle of Fate, where she became friends with Sora and Riku.

At the end of Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, Ian Sid asks Rick to bring Cairi to him to train her to use the Keyblade.

Riku ( Japanese リ ク , English Riku ) is one of the main characters in the series, the best friend of Sora and Cairo . His name is a Chinese reading of the hieroglyph “earth” ( Japanese. ) ^[13] . Nomura claims that Sora and Riku symbolize the "bright and dark side of the heart", respectively ^[15] .

In Kingdom Hearts, after attacking the Islands of Fate, Heartless Riku is separated from Sora and Cairo. To find Cairo, Riku makes a deal with Maleficent . The deal was that if Riku sided with her, she would help him save Cairo. Maleficent makes Rika doubt Sora - supposedly Sora exchanged him and Cairo for new friends and Key-Blade. An embittered Riku finds Cairo's lifeless body without a heart. When Sora arrives at the Empty Bastion, Ansem the Darkseeker moves into Rika , but subsequently, Sora helps him free himself from Ansem. Sora and the King close the door to the Kingdom of Hearts on both sides, as there are hordes of Heartless people who are trying to go outside, while the King and Rika are behind the door. In Chain of Memories, Riku is the main character of the storyline after completing the campaign for Sora. After the events of the first Kingdom Hearts, Riku is on the first floor of the Castle of Oblivion. He rises to the upper floors of the castle, fighting with members of the XIII Organization, as well as with Ansem, who wants to subdue Rick Darkness. In addition, he fights with his own clone created by the Organization. Upon learning that Sora is sleeping, restoring her lost memories, Riku, with the help of DiZ , Namine and the King, fights with the fragment of Ansem’s heart inside and defeats him. In the end, Riku decides to use both Light and Darkness equally.

During the events of Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, Riku tries to convince Xion to become one with Sora so that he can recover his memory and wake up. Then Riku defeats Roxas and gives it to DiZ, while he had to use the forces of Darkness and take on the form of Ansem. In Kingdom Hearts II, Riku retains the appearance of Ansem, but secretly helps Sora. In the end, Riku gets his own Blade Key called The Path to Dawn. When, at the end of the game, DiZ's car for creating a digital copy of the Kingdom of Hearts explodes, Riku returns to his true appearance. Together with Sora, he defeats Xemnas , and then goes home to the Isle of Fate.

In Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, Ian Sid sends Sora and Rick to Dream Reality, where the hero encounters a young Ksehanort who knows how to travel in time. After confronting Ksehanort, Riku enters Sora's subconscious to awaken him from the nightmare in which Ksehanort plunged him. Having met inside the consciousness of Sora with Roxas, Xion and Ventus, Riku learns that Ansem the Wise wrote down data in the Sora subconscious that would save those whom Sora wanted to save. As a result, only Riku became the Key-Blade Master, and Sora failed the exam, and sets off on a new journey to gain experience. Ian Sid asks Rick to bring Cairo to him in order to train her to own the Keyblade.

Mickey Mouse ( ミ ッ キ ー マ ウ ス Mickey Mouse ) is the king of Disney Castle and Disney City. During the development of the first game, Disney allowed Nomura to use Mickey in only one scene in an episodic role ^[6] , but, with the development of the series, the role of King Mickey as a character also increased ^[11] .

In the first Kingdom Hearts, the King leaves his homeworld and sets off to fight the Heartless, ordering his subordinates Goofy and Donald to find the “key” that will save the worlds from darkness. At the end of the game, the King and Sora seal the door to the Kingdom of Hearts on both sides so as not to let the Heartless enter the worlds, with the King and Rika being on the other side of the door. In Chain of Memories, the King helps Rick pass through the Castle of Oblivion, as well as resist Ansem . In Kingdom Hearts II, Mickey reveals the plan of Organization XIII, and then helps Sora save Cairo from a World that never existed. Sometimes, if Sora is defeated, Mickey appears as a game character. Donald Duck ( ド ナ ル ド ダ ッ ク она Donarudo Dakku , English Donald Duck ) - the court magician of Disney Castle, along with Goofy accompanies Sora on his travels. Together with Goofy, Donald is trying to find the King who left their world to fight the Darkness. Having met Sora in Cross City, Donald goes on a trip with him. At the end of the Chain of Memories, Donald, Goofy, and Sora fall asleep in special capsules so that Namine recovered their lost memories. In Kingdom Hearts II, Donald continues his journey with Sora to find King Mickey. Donald is playable in 358/2 Days , and he also appears in coded , Birth by Sleep and Dream Drop Distance .

Goofy ( グ ー フ ィ ー Gu: fi , English Goofy ) is the captain of the royal guard of Disney Castle, along with Donald accompanies Sora on his travels. He does not like battles, so he uses a shield as a weapon. Together with Donald Goofy is trying to find the King who left their world to fight the Darkness. Having met Sora in Cross City, Goofy goes on a trip with him. At the end of the Chain of Memories, Goofy, Donald, and Sora fall asleep in special capsules so that Namine recaptures their lost memories. In Kingdom Hearts II, Goofy continues his journey with Sora to find King Mickey. Goofy is playable in 358/2 Days , and he also appears in coded , Birth by Sleep and Dream Drop Distance .

Roxas ( Jap. ロ ク サ ス Rokusasu , Eng. Roxas ) - Non-existent Sora, born as a result of his transformation into Heartless. By number in the Organization is the thirteenth, and his element is light. The name “Roxas” is an anagram of the name “Sora” with the letter X added ^[16] . Having been born in the Twilight city, Roxas meets Ksemnas , its leader. Xemnas gives Roxas a name and takes it to Organization XIII. Xion ( シ オ ン Zion ) is the fourteenth member of the XIII Organization, one of the main characters of 358/2 Days . Having joined the Organization, she is strongly attached to Roxas and Axel . The serial number in the Organization is an imaginary unit : “Xion” is an anagram of “No. i ”with the added letter X ^[17] , and its element, like that of Roxas, is light. Outwardly, she looks like Cairo , but she has black hair, since Cairo is the most important person for Sora ^[18] . Later in the game, it turns out that Xion is an imperfect Roxas clone created by Xemnas from Sora’s memoirs, as he needed another subordinate who owned the Key Blade. Having learned the truth about his origin, Xion leaves the Organization, as it becomes stronger, and Roxas, on the contrary, is weaker. Xemnas catches her and programs her mind so that she swallows Roxas. After the battle with Roxas in the Twilight City, Xion regains consciousness, and before death she asks Roxas to stop Xemnas. Xion's body disappears, and with it the memories of those around her associated with her. However, Xion continues to exist first in Roxas and then as part of Sora. Terra ( テ ラ Thera ) is one of the three main characters in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep , which takes place ten years before the events of the original game. Together with his friends, Ventus and Aqua Terra is a student of the Master of Eracus and strives to become the Master of the Key Blade. He fails the exam for the title of Master, because, according to Eracus, he is too susceptible to Darkness. Master Xekhanort encourages Terra to use the Darkness, telling him that she cannot be defeated, but only subjugated to herself. In the end, Xekhanort, realizing that he is aging and may not live up to the balance of Light and Darkness, occupies Terra, which becomes vulnerable due to the use of Darkness. In coded, King Mickey discovers that Terra is one of those whom Sora must save.

Ventus ( Japanese ヴ ェ ン ト ゥ ス Ventusu , English Ventus ) is one of the three main characters in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep . Together with his friends, Aqua and Terra, Ventus is a student of the Master of Eracus and strives to become the Master of the Key Blade. Externally, Ventus looks exactly the same as Roxas ^[19] .

In Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, Ansem is one of the main villains. This game shows that he is moving into the past in order to convey to young Ksehanort the ability to travel in time. When Sora and Riku pass the Dream Reality exam, Ansem, accompanying Ksehanort, meets Rika and tries to force him to use the Darkness and subjugate him. Ansem turns out to be one of the members of the new Organization XIII, which was created by Master Ksehanort.

Vanitas ( ヴ ァ ニ タ ス Vanitas ) is a material embodiment of Darkness from the heart of Ventus , which Master Ksehanort , one of the main villains in Birth by Sleep and Ksehanort's right hand, took. He looks like a masked boy. The novelization of Birth by Sleep states that before Ventus tied his heart to the heart of Sora , Vanitas had no face: it was just darkness with two red glowing eyes, but after that he acquired a face like that of Sora. Vanitas has a very mixed attitude towards Ventus: on the one hand, he hates him, and on the other, he suffers suffering in his absence. The negative emotions of Vanitas took the form of the Ignorants whom he could control. Like Ventus, Vanitas can use Keyblade.

Braig ( ブ ラ イ グ Buraygu , Eng. Braig ) is the assistant to Master Xehanort , armed with two laser cannons resembling crossbows. He was one of the students of DiZ and lived in the Radiant Garden. In Birth by Sleep, he, as directed by Master Xekhanort, pretends to take him hostage and fights Terra , who is trying to free him. Terra succumbs to Darkness and uses it on Braig, as a result of which he cripples him and deprives his eyes. Having become a receptacle for a fragment of Ksehanort’s heart, Braig fights with Ventus and Aqua in Key-Blade Cemetery to divert their attention while Master Ksehanort moves into Terra. It is Braig who leads Ansem the Wise to the lost Terre-Xehanort and asks him to take care of him. Subsequently, he became very close to Ksekhanort and carried out experiments on the heart with him. In Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, Isa is reborn and becomes a container for part of Xekhanort's heart, as well as a member of the new Organization XIII.

Maleficent ( マ レ フ ィ セ ン ト Marefisento , English Maleficent ) is one of the main villains of the Kingdom Hearts series, an evil fairy hailing from the world of Enchanted Kingdom, based on the cartoon Sleeping Beauty . In the first game, Maleficent leads the Council of Villains, consisting of Disney villains , and collects the hearts of the seven Princesses of the Heart . In the end, Sora defeats her. Maleficent returns to Kingdom Hearts II and plans to capture the worlds with Pete , in Kingdom Hearts coded she tries to free the Heartless from the cyberspace created by Mickey, and in Birth by Sleep she learns from Master Ksehanort about the existence of other worlds and plans to capture them. In Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, she takes Queen Minnie hostage, but her plan breaks down.

Pete ( ピ ー ト Pi: then , English Pete ) is Maleficent’s assistant. He used to live in Disney City until Queen Minnie drove him out of Birth by Sleep for the trouble he caused the residents of the city. Teaming up with Maleficent, Pete is plotting to capture the worlds. In Kingdom Hearts II, he gathers an army of Heartless for Maleficent, and also lures Disney villains to his side.

Hades ( ハ デ ス Hadesu ) is the ruler of the Underworld, lives in the world of the Olympic Coliseum, based on the cartoon " Hercules ". In Birth by Sleep, he subjugates Zach and with his help wants to kill Hercules, but Terra bothers him, and Ventus and Aqua frustrate his other plans. In the first Kingdom Hearts, Hades hires Cloud to kill Hercules and Sora in exchange for information about Sephiroth . In Kingdom Hearts II, Hades resurrects Auron and orders him to kill Hercules, but Auron and Sora defeat him.

Jafar ( Jap. ジ ャ フ ー ー Jafa: Eng. Jafar ) - Agrara’s vizier from the cartoon " Aladdin ", hungry for power. He abducts Princess Jasmine , as one of the seven Princesses of the Heart , and gives it to Maleficent , and in order to rule Agraba, takes away from Aladdin a magic lamp with Jinn . He makes Jinn want to become a genie himself, but Sora , taking advantage of the fact that Jafar became a genie, forced him to return to his lamp. In Kingdom Hearts II, Jafar tricks a wandering merchant into releasing him, but Sora defeats him again, and this time his lamp is destroyed.

Ursula ( ア ー ス ラ A: surah , English Ursula ) is a sea witch who, with the help of Heartless and Maleficent, plans to capture the Atlantic, the world from the cartoon The Little Mermaid . When her henchmen, the Flotsam and the Jetsam , are defeated by Sora , she is consumed with a thirst for revenge and attacks him. After her defeat, in Kingdom Hearts II , she tries to get a magical trident using Ariel's love for Eric , but fails. At the beginning of Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, Sora and Riku fight her and defeat her.

Ugi-Boogie ( ウ ー ギ ー ・ ブ ー ギ ー U: gi: Boo: gi: English Oogie Boogie ) - a beech from the City of Halloween from the cartoon “The Nightmare Before Christmas ”. He decided to control the Heartless with the help of an artificial heart, which Dr. Filkenstein made. He eats this heart, but it does not work. He abducts Elizabeth Swann , because she has an Aztec gold medallion that the pirates once plundered, and were punished for it as a punishment: they become immortal, and at the same time they experience terrible feelings. In the end, Jack Sparrow with the help of Sora removes the curse from Barbossa and kills him with a shot from a pistol.

Scar ( Japanese ス カ ー Bitch:, English Scar ) - a lion, Uncle Simba from the cartoon " The Lion King ". Xemnas ( ゼ ム ナ ス Zemunasu ) is a non-existent Ksehanorta and leader of the XIII Organization. His name “Xemnas” is an anagram of the name “Ansem” with the letter X added. His organization number is the first, his element is emptiness, and he is armed with a pair of Ethereal blades consisting of red light ^[20] .

Xemnas first appeared in the Kingdom Hearts Final Mix as a secret boss. In Kingdom Hearts, the 358/2 Days Ksemnas takes to the Roscas Organization and creates Xion to use their Key Blades to destroy the Heartless, release their hearts and create the Kingdom of Hearts. In Kingdom Hearts II, Xemnas is the main villain. After losing Roxas and Xion to collect hearts, Xemnas manipulates Sora . For this purpose, he orders Sykes to abduct Cairo and deliver her to a world that has never been. When Sykes, Xaldin , Demix , Luxord, and Xigbar are defeated, Xemnas tries to use the Kingdom of Hearts to become more powerful, but DiZ tries to digitize the Kingdom of Hearts with his machine, and it explodes, damaging it. Sora and Riku defeat Xemnas.

In Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, Xemnas is one of the main villains. When Sora and Riku pass the Dream Reality exam, Xemnas, accompanying Ksehanort, meets Sora and tries to take advantage of his connection with many hearts. Xemnas is one of the members of the new Organization XIII, which was created by Master Xehanort.

Xigbar ( シ グ バ ー ル Siguba: ru , English Xigbar ) - Non-existent Braig , the second in Organization XIII by number. His name is “Xigbar” - an anagram of the name “Braig” with the letter X added. Xaldin ( ザ ル デ ィ ン Dzarudin , Eng. Xaldin ) - Dylan is nonexistent , the third in Organization XIII by number. His name “Xaldin” is an anagram of the name “Dilan” with the letter X added. His element is the wind, and he is armed with six spears. Ksaldin, although he understands that being without a heart is bad, treats with disdain those who follow his call. In Kingdom Hearts II, he manipulates the Beast , but Sora's intervention prompts him to kidnap Belle and the Beast's magical rose, however Belle escapes with the rose and Sora fights with him and destroys him. Killing Xaldin revives Dylan in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance .

Veksen ( ヴ ィ ク セ ン Wikusen , Eng. Vexen ) - Non-existent Even , fourth in Organization XIII by number. His name is “Vexen” - an anagram of the name “Even” with the letter X added. His element is ice, and he is armed with a shield. Veksen conducts experiments to create clones, the first of which is Xion . In Chain of Memories, he tries to disrupt Marluxy 's plan by manipulating Rick and his clone . When Vexen began to crash, he decides to tell Sora about the plans of Marluxia and the existence of Roxas , but Marluxia orders Axel to kill him. His name “Lexaeus” is an anagram of the name “Aeleus” with the letter X added. His element is earth, and he is armed with a giant hybrid of ax and sword. In Chain of Memories, Lexaeus, along with Zexion and Vexen, try to stop Marluxia's plan using Rika , but he kills Lexaeus when he is captured by a fragment of Ansem's heart. The destruction of Lexaeus revives Aeleus in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance .

Zeksion ( Jap. ゼ ク シ ン ン Zeksion , Eng. Zexion ) - Non-existent Jenzo , the sixth in Organization XIII by number. His name “Zexion” is an anagram of the name “Ienzo” with the letter X added. His element is illusions, and he is armed with a book.

Zeksion appears in Chain of Memories , where he, together with Veksen and Lexaeus, tries to prevent Marluxia’s plan to seize power in Organization XIII, however, when Marluxia is killed by Sora , Zexion no longer makes sense in Rika . He tries to get rid of Riku and lures him into an illusion world, a copy of the Isles of Fate.
