Strait of Dmitry Laptev - the strait between the island of Big Lyakhovsky and the mainland of Eurasia . The strait belongs to the Laptev Sea and connects it with the East Siberian Sea .

Length 115 km, width 50-61 km, depth 11-16 m. The coast is low-lying. Most of the year the strait is covered with ice. On the shores of the strait exits to the surface of fossil ice .
The southern (mainland) coast of the strait (from Cape Svyatoy Nos to the mouth of the Kondratyev River) is called the Oyogos-Yar Coast.
The strait is named after Dmitry Yakovlevich Laptev , who discovered it in 1740.
Until the beginning of the 19th century , the island of Diomede was in the strait, which consisted of ice with rocks, after melting of which the island turned into an underwater bank (shallow water).
