The women's 800-meter race at the World Athletics Championships in Moscow was held at the Luzhniki Stadium on August 15 , 16 and 18, 2013 .
In the absence of world season leader Francine Niyonsaba from Burundi, Kenyanka Younis Sumy unexpectedly became world champion in the finals, exceeding her personal record by almost 2 seconds. Olympic champion and world champion 2011 Russian Maria Savinova remained in second place.
