Albu, Gheorghe

Gheorghe Albu ( rum. Gheorghe Albu ; September 12, 1909 , Arad - June 26, 1974 , Făgăraş ) is a Romanian footballer and football coach, participant in the 1934 World Cup and Romania’s national team coach in 1950.

Player Career

Club

He began his career in 1924, speaking for the youth composition of the Arad club AMEF until 1929, after which he moved to another Arad club - Gloria. He reached the final of the Romanian championship 1929/1930 , where his club lost to the Bucharest Juventus . In 1933 he moved to the Venus Bucharest, with which he won four national championships. He completed his career at the Craiova club from 1940 to 1944.

Team

He made his debut in the national team in May 1931 in the match against Bulgaria (Romanian victory 5: 2). Participated in the 1934 World Cup. In total, he played 42 games, of which in 19 came out as a team captain. Farewell match held in December 1938 against Czechoslovakia (defeat of Romania 1: 2).

Coach Career

After the war, coached a number of teams, in 1950 led the national team of Romania. From 1964 to the end of his life, he worked at the academy of the Nitramonia club from Feregash , leading youth teams.
