Richard Jay Potosh ( born Richard Jay Potash ), better known as Ricky Jay ( born Ricky Jay ; June 26, 1946 , Brooklyn , New York , USA - November 24, 2018 , Los Angeles , USA ) - American actor and illusionist , known for his roles in the Boogie Nights , Tomorrow Never Dies , Magnolia and Robbery , as well as the television series Deadwood and Remember What Will Be . He was an expert in hand dexterity and is known for card tricks and memory experiments [1] .

Biography
Jay was born in Brooklyn , New York , to a middle-class Jewish family [2] [3] . His grandfather, Max Katz, was a wealthy certified public accountant and amateur magician, which influenced the choice of the future profession of Jay [4] [5] [6] .
