Club career
Career start
Constantopoulos began his career in the clubs of the lower Greek divisions - Kalamata and Egaleo . He spent the 2002/2003 season at the Portuguese club Fahrense , but did not play a single game there.
Hartlepool
In the fall of 2003, Konstantopoulos went to the English club Hartlepool United , who played in League One . After several successful matches for the reserve team, Dimitrios soon signed a one and a half year contract with United.
On August 24, 2004, Konstantopoulos made his Hartlepool debut in the League Cup match against Macclesfield Town (2: 1). After 6 days, the Greek made his debut in the championship in a victory game against Colchester United (2: 1) and gradually gained a foothold as the team's first goalkeeper. After 37 games following the 2004/2005 season, Konstantopoulos helped Hartlepool reach the final of the playoffs , where they lost to Sheffield Wensday .
Coventry City
On May 25, 2007, Constantopoulos signed a contract with Coventry City Championship Club [2] . He made his debut on August 11, 2007 in a match with Barnsley (4: 1). The first half of the season, Dimitrios was the main goalkeeper of the team, but then he was replaced by Andy Marshall . On March 24, 2008, the Greek goalkeeper was rented by the Nottingham Forest until the end of the season, but at the very first training he tore the tendon on his right foot and left City Ground .
Swansea City
On October 24, 2008, Konstantopoulos was leased to Swansea City after their main goalkeeper Dorus de Vries received a double jaw fracture in one of the matches. On November 1, Dimitrios made his debut for the “swans” in the game against the Doncaster Rovers , reflecting a penalty in the 85th minute and maintaining a draw (0: 0). After five matches and the return of de Vries, the Greek was recalled Coventry. In January, Constantopoulos went on re-lease at Swansea [3] , but played only one meeting in the FA Cup against Portsmouth (2-0). Swansea hoped to extend the lease until the end of the winter transfer window , but the deal was not completed on time due to adverse weather conditions.
Cardiff City
Returning to Coventry, the goalkeeper soon went on loan to another Welsh club Cardiff City [4] . On February 22, 2009, Dimitrios made his debut with Cardiff in a draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers and in the 81st minute sent the ball into his own net after a cross by Kyle Reed . After spending 5 games, in March, the Greek made another productive mistake in the match against Norwich City (0: 2) and did not enter the field until the end of the season.
Kerkyra
In the summer of 2010, Constantopoulos returned to Greece, to the Kerkyra club. According to the results of the championship, he was recognized as the “Best goalkeeper of the championship of Greece” season 2010/2011.
AEK
On July 13, 2011, Konstantopoulos signed a two-year contract with one of the Greek giants AEK [5] . At the end of the 2012/2013 season, AEK left the Premier League and Konstantopoulos left the club in May.
Middlesbrough
On August 16, 2013, Constantopoulos signed a short-term contract with the English Middlesbrough until January 2014 [6] . On January 4, 2014, he made his debut for the rivermen in the FA Cup match against Hull City , having conceded two unanswered goals [7] . January 16 extended the contract with Boro until the end of the season [8] . On May 1, 2014, the agreement was extended for another two years [9] .
International Career
In November 2010, Constantopoulos was first called to the Greek national team for a friendly match against Austria , but remained on the bench. On June 4, 2011, Dimitrios made his debut for the national team in the qualifying match of the 2012 European Championship against the national team of Malta (3: 1).
