Biography

He was born in the village of Borisovo (currently in the Mozhaysky district of the Moscow region ) into a peasant family.

After serving in the army, he worked at the Soyuz-Gold plant, then entered the Moscow Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals and Gold . In 1932, he began working as an engineer at aircraft factory No. 34. In 1933-1934 he was sent for an internship at the American company Wright Company , and then on a business trip to Germany . Subsequently, he took the post of director of the plant. In 1940 he was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor .

During the war , he led the evacuation of the plant in the city of Kuznetsk , then Troitsk of the Chelyabinsk region and the organization of production in a new place. The fulfillment of this task was marked by the Order of the Red Star in 1943.

In 1944 he was appointed director of the aircraft factory number 43 . In 1950, he graduated from the Academy of Aviation Industry and was appointed director of the plant No. 455 in Kostino , which later became the Kaliningrad Engineering Plant .

Under the leadership of Arzhakov, in 1956, serial production of the first Soviet air-to-air guided missile RS-1-U , as well as other rocket technology, began.

He died on June 24, 1977. He was buried in Moscow at the Vostryakovsky cemetery .

In memory of Mikhail Petrovich Arzhakov, a street was named in Korolev, near Moscow.
