Mail Development
In the 1890s, correspondence from North-West Rhodesia was delivered by a messenger to Bulawayo , and mail from North-East Rhodesia was forwarded through until 1895 [3] .
Further changes in the organization and functioning of the postal service in the territory of modern Zambia were associated with a change in the status of this country. In particular, in 1911, Northern Rhodesia was formed from the lands managed by the British South African Company , which received official British protectorate status in 1924. In 1964, Northern Rhodesia became an independent state called Zambia.

In 1938, the same drawing was adapted for King George VI .
The first commemorative issue of Northern Rhodesia was a series of five stamps, released May 30, 1953 to commemorate the centenary of the birth of Cecil Rhodes , along with another stamp issued on the same day on the occasion of the anniversary exhibition of Rhodes. Since Elizabeth II was already on the throne, her profile was placed on the stamps, despite the fact that the official only released on June 2:
In September of the same year, a series of standard brands of the previous was released, but with the profile of the new queen.
Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland
In 1953, Northern Rhodesia became part of the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland , and Federation stamps began to be used on its territory until the dissolution of the latter in 1963 [4] . On December 10, 1963, a new standard series was released depicting the Queen and the coat of arms of the territory, but already on October 23, 1964 it was withdrawn from circulation in connection with the acquisition of independence by Zambia.
