From the Golitsyn- Alekseevich. Son of Prince Sergei Ivanovich Golitsyn and Elizabeth Vasilyevna Priklonskoy.
Golitsyn received his home education, and later in 1811–1812 he continued his studies at the private educational institution of Lieutenant Colonel N. N. Muravyov at the “Society of Amateurs of Mathematical Sciences”, transformed in 1816 into the School of Columnowees . Special attention in teaching was paid to "pure mathematics and some parts of applied science", as well as to military sciences [1] .
In 1812, Prince Vasiliy Sergeevich began serving as an actuary (registrar) in the Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs [2] . With the outbreak of the Patriotic War, N. N. Muravyov was appointed chief of the militia headquarters of the 3rd district of Count P. A. Tolstoy , located in Nizhny Novgorod , where many of those who had studied at his institution followed him. At first, Golitsyn was employed in the rank of ensign with the appointment to be under Colonel Muravyov as an officer in the quartermaster’s unit , later transferred to this unit. Together with the corps of Count Tolstoy, he participated in the blockades of the cities of Dresden, Magdeburg, Hamburg and Gaarburg [1] . For the battles for the island of Wilgemburg, he was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir of the 4th degree [2] . From 1814, he was in the quarters' unit at the corps of Lieutenant-General Count Vorontsov , in 1819 engaged in the withdrawal of troops from France , for which he was awarded the Order of St. Louis Louis XVIII [2] .
In 1819 he made a trip to England , permission for which his father had obtained. In a letter to him on the eve of the trip, Golitsyn wrote: “... you asked the count without my permission to go to England. The count agrees, and I have already talked about this, he promised to let him go near Vienna. Although I am very pleased with this, I have been willing for a long time, and from there I should look for means to go there to go; but how will I take this journey. It is known that in England, four times more expensive than Paris. So, one cannot go there otherwise, as with a full pocket [2] . ” The prince spent most of the trip in the company of Grand Duke Mikhail Pavlovich , with whom they saw the sights and various institutions. The result was notes "Journey to England of Prince Vasily Golitsyn 1818."
After returning to Russia in 1819, he was appointed adjutant to Count Vorontsov with a transfer to the Kinburn Dragoon regiment as a lieutenant . After his appointment to Novorossiysk Governor General on May 19, 1823, Golitsyn was appointed adjutant to the commander - in-chief of the Guards crew, Adjutant General Prince Illarion Vasilchikov , transferred to the Gusar Life Guards Regiment and promoted to the headquarters officer [1] .
Thanks to his marriage to Countess Adele Stroganova, Vasily Sergeevich was appointed aide-de-camp to Emperor Alexander I. Princess N. Golitsyna on May 26, 1821, informed her elder daughter:
... Yesterday, Prince Volkonsky sent to your sister, who was with me, an order given by the Sovereign in Velikiye Luki , from which it is clear that Golitsyn was appointed aide-de-camp. You will understand how it pleased us. Golitsyn himself did not suspect anything when he came to me, and we announced this to him. He immediately rushed to arrange for himself the appropriate uniform or to get him somewhere, so that he could introduce himself to the Sovereign today when he arrived. Since I haven’t seen anyone yet today, I don’t know if all of this was possible. I admit, I always thought that he would be appointed an adjutant, but I didn’t expect the Sovereign to remember about him during the trip. This is, indeed, a great deal of attention paid, of course, to your sister and Adele, whom the sovereign sincerely loves [2] . |
In 1825, Prince Golitsyn had to accompany the body of the deceased emperor from Taganrog to St. Petersburg as a wing adjutant. Later he was appointed aide-de-camp to Emperor Nicholas I , on the occasion of the coronation of the latter he was promoted to colonel .
In 1829, Prince Golitsyn was dismissed from military service "due to illness" and determined to civil cases. Vasily Sergeevich entered the service in the General Presence of the Department of Different Taxes and Duties of the Ministry of Finance with the renaming into state councilors.
Mason , a founding member of the St. Petersburg Lodge of St. George the Victorious (1818-1819) [2] .
In 1836, Prince V. S. Golitsyn went to England and France to correct his health and died suddenly on October 7 from a grueling fever. P. A. Vyazemsky informed A. I. Turgenev : "Kulik-Golitsyn, Adele Stroganov's husband died in Paris." His body was delivered to Russia and buried in the Trinity Church of the Marino estate.
Marriage
In the fall of 1820, Golitsyn marched to Countess Aglaida Pavlovna Stroganova (1799–05.10.1882), the second daughter of Count Pavel Alexandrovich Stroganov (1772–1817) and Sofia Vladimirovna, born Galichyna (1775–1842), and the proposal was “favorably received”. "... Countess S. V. Stroganov, blessed her daughter Aglaida Pavlovna, on the day of her engagement for Prince Vasily Sergeyevich Golitsyn, October 14th afternoon at 12 o'clock in 1820." This union was also approved by the strict grandmother, the famous “whiskered princess” , who in October 1820 wrote to the daughter of Countess E. V. Apraksina :
I did not seal the letter, for I waited for your sister's arrival with the announcement of Adele's wedding. Yesterday, we agreed with Sophia that she would bring both Adele and Golitsyn to me, so that I could give my consent and bless them. All this has just happened, and I notify you that this wedding is no longer a secret and that in a few days cards will be sent on this occasion. For the wedding, they want to wait for the arrival of you and your brother , so it probably will not be until January. Dowry, apartment, etc. are ready [2] . |
February 6, 1821 in St. Petersburg, the wedding took place. Although the older sister Natalya Pavlovna , who had married SG Stroganov in 1818, inherited most of the Stroganovs' fortune, Aglaida Pavlovna was also a rich bride, who brought 2 million rubles to the dowry, which were issued with interest for 15 years. The cousin of Prince A. Golitsyn, A. Ya. Bulgakov, wrote: “Vasya is very happy to get into such a family and that this luck depended, first of all, on his behavior, on good rules [2] .”
Although Aglaida Pavlovna owned a house in St. Petersburg, but after the wedding, the newlyweds settled in the Stroganov Palace , where the apartment was prepared for them with windows to the Moika. On the occasion of the marriage and housewarming in the palace was given a grand ball, which was attended by the grand dukes and the aristocratic society. K. Ya. On March 18, 1824, the Countess established the “Private Mining and Factory School of the Countess S. V. Strogonova,” whose director was her son-in-law. Vasily Sergeevich wrote in his diary:

Then he was at a lecture by Scherer about the combination of gases in atmospheric air and breathing in general, the effect of air in furs. |
