Biography
The son of a yard serf, raised in the family of a freedman in Voronezh . He received his secondary education at the Voronezh district school and the Voronezh gymnasium (he graduated with a gold medal), from where he entered the academy in 1854 . In 1859 he completed the course with a gold medal, leaving at the academy for scientific improvement; in 1862 received a doctorate in medicine and was sent abroad for 2 years. Since 1867 - associate professor of normal histology at the academy, then an ordinary professor, academician. He owned a number of very valuable studies, of which the study on the role of white blood balls in the fight against infectious diseases attracted special attention not only in Russia , but also abroad.
