Biography
The only daughter of Count Yuri Alexandrovich Golovkin (1762–1846) and Ekaterina Lvovna (1762–1820), the youngest daughter of Lev Naryshkin , one of Catherine II ’s close associates, she inherited the majorate established by her father. Being the maid of honor of the court, on April 14 (26), 1801, she married Alexander Saltykov , the second son of Field Marshal N. I. Saltykov [2] . They were married in the church of the Holy Trinity at the summer residence of Count Saltykov, the guarantor for the groom was his brother Sergei , the bride was D. L. Naryshkin [3] .
A. Ya. Bulgakov , who saw Saltykov when she was about 30 years old, found her very beautiful, very flirty, but far from smart. According to Vigel’s recollections, Natalya Yurievna was a charming woman to the impossibility, if her features were not too large, then she could be considered a perfect beauty [4] .
From the review of Vigel it follows that, like her mother, Natalya Saltykova did not differ in strict morals. Having met her already aged, Vigel regretted "to what extent she became insensitive to general disrespect", for she broke her ties with the upper world, "in order to freely indulge in condemned pleasures."
According to her great-granddaughter, Princess Natalya Yuryevna retained her beauty until she was old and looked like an aunt next to her grandchildren. She always dressed beautifully and, despite her advanced years, loved the pink color, which did not seem too young for her, because she herself was good and fresh [5] .
Widowed in 1837, she survived her husband for 23 years and died in Moscow in 1860; buried in the Donskoy monastery [6] . Her children were supremely allowed to carry the double name Saltykov-Golovkin [7] .
