Scientific Views
Along with such scientists as Bliznichenko S. S. , Lazarev S. E. , Milbakh V. S. , Minakov S. T. , Rubtsov Yu. V. , Cherushev N. S. , is a major specialist in the study of the Soviet military the elites of the 1930s and 1940s and repressions in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army in 1937-1938. In interpreting the repressions, A. A. Pechenkin adheres to traditional views on the disastrous results of the “Great Terror” and the “knocking down” of the Red Army. A. A. Pechenkin highly praises the top command staff of the 2nd half of the 1930s, who were repressed in their mass, emphasizing that many “generals” had higher military education and extensive combat experience. Analyzing the activities of the nominees of the 1930s, he came to the conclusion that not one of the front commanders created on June 22, 1941 could stand the test of the first battles of the war, and among the army commanders there were also many weak generals who were unprepared for the responsible role. Therefore, the repression of 1937-1938. the historian considers it a real disaster and is sure that their victims, at a different turn of fate, would have found their rightful place among the commanders of the Great Patriotic War.
