National Archives of the Republic of Karelia

The National Archives of the Republic of Karelia is the state official body of the Republic of Karelia , the repository of the documentary heritage on the history of Karelia from the beginning of the 18th century to the present [3] .

In 1918, a subdivision of archives was established at the Olonets Provincial Department of Public Education. In December 1919, A.F. Kirikov was appointed the head of the Department of the Provincial Archival Fund [4] .

In 1922, the Karelian Regional Archival Bureau was created, and A. F. Nuorteva was appointed head.

On July 18, 1924, the Central Archive Bureau (Tsentrhiv) was organized by a resolution of the Council of People's Commissars of the Autonomous Karelian SSR , N. V. Khrisanfov was appointed the first head.

In 1925, the bureau was renamed the Office of the Central Archive of the Autonomous Karelian SSR. The administration includes the Historical Archive and the Archive of the October Revolution.

In 1939, the department was renamed the Central State Archive of the Karelian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (TSGA KASSR).

In 1941-1956 - the Central State Archive of the Karelian-Finnish SSR (Central State Administration of the KFSSR). In the years 1949-1955, the archive was headed by D. Z. Gendelev .

In 1963, with the rights of a department, the State Archive of Photo Documents of the KASSR, organized since 1945, entered.

In 1998, the archive received national status and was renamed the National Archives of the Republic of Karelia.

In 2007, the Karelian State Archive of Modern History entered the archive.
