Shin Chun Sop

Shin Chun Sop ( cor. 신준섭 ; June 17, 1963 , Namwon ) - Korean middleweight boxer , played for the South Korean national team in the mid-1980s. Champion of the Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles, champion of the Asian Games, winner of many international tournaments and national championships.

Biography

Shin Chun Sop was born on June 17, 1963 in Namwon , Jeollabuk-do Province . He began to actively engage in boxing at the age of sixteen, was trained in the local boxing gym. He achieved his first serious success in 1983, when, having first entered the main national team, he won first silver in the King’s Cup and then won gold in the World Cup in Rome, where he also defeated the strong Venezuelan boxer Pedro Gamarro . Thanks to a series of successful appearances, he was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles - in the second middle weight he turned out to be better than all his rivals and won a gold medal (in the finals 3–2 defeated American Virgil Hill , the future world champion among professionals).

Immediately after the Olympics, Sin announced the end of his sports career, saying that from now on he intends to devote all his time to studying. However, in 1985 he returned to the national team, and a year later he successfully performed at the Asian Games in Seoul - he beat all opponents in the second middle weight category there and received a gold medal. Also this season he took part in the World Cup standings, however, in the first match of the tournament with a score of 2: 3 he lost to the German Henry Maske .

Sin graduated from Won Gwan University, has a master's degree in physical education. In the early 1990s, he worked as an assistant coach in the Korean national boxing team, traveled with the team to the Olympic Games in Barcelona . He taught at the college for some time, and in 1996 he emigrated to the USA. He currently lives in Atlanta , is engaged in business.
