Biography
He graduated from the University of Rome .
In 1873 - 1876 he was the keeper of the Vatican's Numismatic cabinet.
In 1876-1919 - professor of the Hebrew language and comparative semitology of the University of Rome, in 1885-1919 there - head of the Department of History and Languages of Abyssinia .
In 1908 - 1909 he lectured on the geography and history of Arabs at Cairo University .
Since 1909 - corresponding member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences . [five]
Scientific Heritage
The author of works on the history, literature and languages of Ethiopia . Of particular importance are the translation and publication in Italian of the Ethiopian Code of Civil and Canon Law, Il Fatha Nagast (Fetha Negest), the publication and commentary on Ethiopian sources on the history of the Gallic people and on the history of the Ethiopian church .
