Socket G2 , also referred to as rPGA988B , is an Intel processor socket for Celeron , Pentium , Core i3 , Core i5 , Core i7 second and third generation mobile processors . Replaces the Socket G1 socket for processors of the first generation.
The early processors are based on the Intel Sandy Bridge architecture and are implemented using the 32-nm process technology, the later 22-nm processors are based on the improved Ivy Bridge architecture. These processors use an internal QPI bus to communicate between the cores and the integrated PCI-Express controller.
Socket G2 processor memory controllers can operate in dual channel mode with DDR3-1066, DDR3-1333 and DDR3-1600 RAM.

Features
The processors for this socket can operate at frequencies up to 3 GHz in nominal mode.
Improved in comparison with its predecessor, the PCI-Express 2.0 bus for processors manufactured according to 32 nm standards, and PCI-Express 3.0 for processors manufactured according to 22 nm standards.
Unlike its predecessor, all processors have a graphics core, which is part of a common chip.
Depending on the processor, the graphics core may be Intel HD2000, HD2500, HD3000 or HD4000.
