Content
Professional career
Shafikov made his debut in the professional ring at the end of 2003. The first ten fights held in Russia and Belarus.
Since 2007, he has been performing under the auspices of the Finnish promotional company P3 Boxing [3] . In the 11th fight in the first fight under the auspices of the new promoter, he won on points more experienced Dominican, Christian Frias (20-1-2).
In 2009, he won the intercontinental IBO title. On October 29, 2010, a duel with unbeaten Italian Brunet Zamora (20-0) was brought to a draw.
In September 2011, Shafikov won the European Championship title in EBU lightweight, and in the second title defense, he again met Brunet Zamora. In the second battle, Shafikov confidently won on points.
Championship fight with Miguel Vázquez
February 22, 2014 in Macau ( China ), suffered a first defeat in the professional ring, in an attempt to win the IBF championship title, in a battle with the Mexican, Miguel Vásquez . Shafikov acted more actively, but Vazquez replayed the candidate for the distance, and in the melee he constantly entered the clinch, did not give the opponent the development of attacks, and this eventually led to a unanimous judicial decision [4] .
Fight with Rustam Nugayev
On August 15, 2014, after a series of victories, Nugaev got a chance at the IBF qualifying fight with Denis Shafikov , who had previously met in the battle for this title with Miguel Vásquez and lost. Shafikov seized the advantage from the start, his punches were faster and more powerful. Especially overwhelming superiority Shafikov was in round 3. From the 6th round Nugaev could not oppose anything to the precise work of the legs and the accuracy of his rival, he missed many precise shots. Nugayev’s left eye and left cheek are swollen. During the break after the 8th round, the coach suggested Rustam to stop the fight; Referee Jack Rhys also warned that with the next successful attack, Shafikov would stop the standoff. Nugaev decided to reach the 9th round, but after half of it was over, Rees still stopped the fight, when he saw that the more tired Nugaev could not do anything. Shafikov received the right to re-fight with Vazquez.
Championship Bout with Rances Barthelemy
On December 18, 2015, he met with the ex-world champion in the 2nd featherweight title without defeat Cuban Rances Barthelemy . At stake was the vacant world champion title in lightweight IBF . Denis was better in the first half of the fight. He was more active and accurate. However, the Cuban was able to equalize the battle, successfully acting in his second half. After 12 rounds, the referee gave Barthelemy victory [5] .
December 2, 2016 won the former contender for the world title in lightweight champion Richard Kommi . The fight lasted all 12 rounds. The judges' scores: 116–112, 115–113, 112–116. Denis has become an indispensable contender for the IBF lightweight title [6] .
Champion fight with Robert Easter
On June 30, 2017, he met with IBF World Lightweight Champion, US defeated Robert American , junior . Easter tried to work at a distance, taking advantage of the length of his arms. Shafikov boxed the first number, put pressure on and broke through to close range. The fight turned out to be close and competitive. The judges gave the victory to the current champion [7] [8] .
Descended in the 2nd semi-light weight. On December 9, 2017, he met with Nicaraguan René Alvarado. Lost on points [9] [10] .
