Biography
Jeff Sims was born in Bill Glade, Florida. He lived in poverty in the countryside. In his youth, he was constantly at odds with the law. At the age of 21, he was arrested and sentenced to imprisonment for manslaughter. After seven years in prison, he was released and became a professional in Miami Beach.
Amateur career
While in prison, Sims became interested in boxing. Sims had a powerful punch. His boxing record in prison amounted to 21 fights, 21 wins, 21 in the first round.
Professional career
He made his debut in March 1979 in a fight with Greg Henderson , whom he defeated by TKO in round 2. He won the first nine fights by knockout,
In January 1980, in a fight for the vacant Florida State Heavyweight title, he met Tom Prater . Sims knocked out Prater twice in rounds 2 and 6 and won by technical knockout in round 6.
In April 1980, he met with Larry Alexander . Alexander won by TKO in round 6.
In August 1980, he met with Larry Fraser . The fight ended in round 1 and was declared invalid. After this fight, Sims won 3 knockout fights.
1981-1990
In July 1981, he met with Jimmy Young . Young won by split decision.
In December 1981, on the undercard of the battle, Mohammed Ali - Trevor Berbick met with Ernie Shavers . Shavers immediately went forward, but at the end of round 1, the Sims knocked Shavers. Shivers got up with difficulty. Sims rushed to finish him off. Shavers left the blind defense, tried to clinch, almost did not respond to the opponentβs attacks, but managed to resist until the end of the round. However, after a strong start, Sims soon ran out of steam and Shavers won by knockout in round 5. After this fight, Sims won 10 fights, 8 of which by knockout.

In March 1986, he met with Tyrell Biggs . In round 2, Sims broke his opponentβs shoulder with one blow, but in the end he lost by unanimous decision.
In July 1989, he met with Jose Ribalta . In round 6, Sims knocked Ribalt down, but ended up losing by close unanimous decision.
1990-1991
Tough fights, and tough Lifestyle soon reflected on Jeff Sims. His reflexes and speed slowed down, and by the end of his career, he suffered 4 consecutive knockout defeats.
In January 1990, he met with Tim Witherspoom . After round 5, Sims refused to continue.
In July 1990, he met with Trevor Berbick . Berbick won by TKO in round 6.
In April 1991, he met with Phil Jackson . Jackson won by TKO in round 4.
In September 1991, he met with James Smith . Smith won by knockout in round 1. After this fight, Sims left boxing.
Death
In December 1993, in Liberty City, Florida, opposite the Earl Market, when he became involved in a dispute with another market client, Sims was shot in the chest.
Jeff Sims gained fame for sparring with Mohammed Ali at 5th Street Gym in 1980, breaking Ali's lip. Ali grew a mustache to hide the cut. He worked as sparring partner Jerry Cooney . In 1981, Jeff Sims, while watching fights in Miami Beach in the conference center, had a fight with Argentine heavyweight Luis Acosta .
