Dagestan carpet - a piece of carpet art , is the oldest craft of Dagestan [1] [2] .
History
The first Dagestan carpets appeared during the time of Herodotus [1] [2] .
Carpet-making in Dagestan was probably taken from Iran . The Great Silk Road passed through the Caucasus . A prayer rug ( Namazlyk ) was also an important attribute in the Islam that spread in the Caucasus [1] [2] .
The oldest known carpet is currently found during excavations in 1949 and is now in the Hermitage [1] .
Dagestan carpets are available in the collections of museums in New York, Paris and other cities. They are exhibits at fairs and exhibitions, where they receive diplomas and gold medals [2] .

Exposition of Dagestan carpets
Also on October 15, 1964, the first exhibits of carpets called Aurora and Lenin were brought to the Dagestan Museum of Fine Arts named after P. S. Gamzatova .
The quality of the Dagestan carpet was marked by a medal and diploma in the city of Brussels (Belgium, 1958), as well as at the Leipzig Trade Fair (GDR, 1967).
