Biography

Serafima Vasilievna was born in 1905 . Her childhood and youth passed in the Vladimir region . In 1924, she married Alexander Osipovich Shakhrai , later the first secretary of the Kyrgyz Regional Committee of the CPSU (B.). In 1934 she entered the Moscow Art Institute. V.I. Surikova . Immediately after defending the diploma in 1941, she was sent to the construction of defense lines, and also worked in the defense and poster brigade of the art institute. In 1942 she joined the Moscow Union of Artists (MOSH) . In the early 1980s, she headed the Creative Environments club at MOSH, where each club meeting was dedicated to the work of a particular artist.

As a material, S.V. Shakhrai used, as a rule, pastel, watercolor, and gouache. Her work covers several areas: Old Moscow, South River Port , Landscape , Crimea , Pleshcheevo Lake , Still Life . Her works were exhibited in the Manege , the Central House of Artists , galleries in other cities, and were repeatedly awarded with diplomas and certificates.
