William Fulton ( born William August 29, 1939) is an American mathematician specializing in algebraic geometry . Best known for his books on intersection theory and algebraic curves .

Biography
In 1961, William Fulton received his bachelor's degree from Brown University , and in 1966 he defended his thesis The Fundamental Group of an Algebraic Curve at Princeton University . [1] Until 1970, he worked at Princeton and at Brandeis University , then began teaching at Brownian. In 1987 he moved to the University of Chicago. As of 2013 - distinguished professor at the University of Michigan . [2]
In 1996, he was awarded the Steel Prize for his book Intersection Theory. [3] Fulton is a member of the US National Academy of Sciences (1997) [4] and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences , and in 2000 was elected a foreign member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences [5] . In 2010, he was awarded the Steel Prize in the nomination "for outstanding achievements throughout his career." [6] Since 2012, is a full member of the American Mathematical Society . [7]
