Biography

Stanislav Podymowski was born April 6, 1839 in Warsaw , in the family of a Polish mountain official [2] [3] .

In 1860 he graduated from the Institute of the Corps of Mining Engineers (at that time with the rank of lieutenant) and was appointed to the service of the Minister of State Secretary of the Kingdom of Poland [2] [3] . He works as the head of the pudding production in Bank Guta ( Polish. Huta Bankowa ) in Dombrow Górnicza [4] .

In 1869, to study technical improvements in the production of iron on coal, he was sent on a business trip to Prussia, Saxony, Belgium and France [2] .

Upon returning from a business trip in 1870 he was appointed manager of the Lisichansk plant [3] , in 1871 - assistant to the mountain chief of the Lugansk district, from 1877 - the bergmeister of the mines and the 1st member of the Main Office of the Lugansk plant, and then the mountain head of the Lugansk district [2] [3] .

In 1876 (according to other sources - 1877 [3] ) he became the manager of the Lugansk foundry and the actual head of the village of the same name [3] .

In 1879, he stepped down as manager of the Lugansk foundry.

In 1881 he retired.

In 1892 he received the appointment of a representative of the Ministry of State Property (MGI) in the survey of the Middle Siberian Railway [2] [3] . Until 1894, he conducted research work.

Fifteen years - from 1895 to 1910 he worked in the Vyatka province , was a district engineer of the 1st Vyatka mountain district (1894) and a deputy from the mining department in the Vyatka Provincial Presence [2] [3] [6] . Member of the 13th meeting of engineers of the Vyatka district (1899).

In 1900-1908, he was a representative of the mining department in the Vyatka provincial zemstvo and the Vyatka provincial and district appraisal commissions, a member of the presence of the Vyatka treasury chamber for fishing tax, an indispensable member of the provincial statistical and artisanal committees.

During his stay in Vyatka Stanislav Podymovsky took part in the public life of the city [2] . For example, in the winter season of 1900-1901, fans of the theater art of Vyatka organized a “Partnership in Support of the Theater”, collecting 100 rubles together and made a seasonal cost estimate for 5000 rubles [7] . For several years the council included activists of the theatrical movement: A. A. and O. P. Prozorov, V. A., Ya. A. and A. F. Shubin, I. A. Charushin, V. S. Vasiliev, A. A. Rudolsky and others [7] . Stanislav Leopoldovich Podymovsky was elected Chairman of the Board of the Partnership [7] .

In 1908, he finally resigned [3] .

Leaving for an operation in Warsaw in 1910, Stanislav Leopoldovich donated to the Vyatka Public Library his collection of 700 volumes of books in Polish worth more than 500 rubles [2] [6] [8] . Stanislav Leopoldovich provided his gift with a catalog - “Catalog of Polish Books”, published at his own expense in Warsaw in the amount of 100 copies [2] [6] . The library report stated: “This catalog is distributed free of charge to subscribers of Polish nationality” [6] . Among the most valuable editions of the Podymowski library is the first translation of the Bible into Polish made by Yakub Vuek in 1599 [6] .

Stanislav Leopoldovich Podymovsky died on September 26, 1911 in Warsaw [2] [3] .

S. L. Podymovsky Collection

Presented in 1910 by Stanislav Podymowski to the Vyatka Public Library, a collection of books in Polish is counted among the book monuments of the Kirov region [8] .

Initially, a collection of 700 volumes was donated [2] . For 2013, the library stores 414 books from the collection of Podymovsky [8] .

The collection consists of the first edition of the Bible translated into Polish by Jakub Wuyka (Krakow, 1599), publications of the XIX century. on theology (5 volumes), philosophy, psychology, pedagogy (11; books by E. Orzeszko “Patriotism and Cosmopolitanism” and translations of the works of E. Tardieu and N. Michaud are presented), social sciences and law (6; Polish translations of English, American and French authors), history and memoirs (27), geography, ethnography, travel (17), science and medicine (3) [8] . The largest part of the library is fiction - 345 books [8] . Among the authors of the French book: A. France, G. Flaubert, E. Rostand, A. E. Goncourt, Guy de Maupassant, V. Hugo; English-language writers: Conan Doyle, M. Twain, E. L. Voynich, G. Wells, J. K. Jerome, T. Roosevelt, and a large number of books by Russian authors A. Chekhov, F. Dostoevsky, A. K. and L N. Tolstoy, I. Turgenev, I. Kuprin.

Attached to the gift was published by Podymowski in 1910 in Warsaw with a circulation of 100 copies of the “Catalog of Polish Books” [8] .
