Biography
Born in the town of Nich in the historical region of Sasun [5] . He was a student of Nerses Mshetsi [6] . He received a degree of vardapet , and then was appointed Nerses Mshetsi rector of the University of Gladzor, who was led by him for more than half a century [1] . He taught " seven free arts " - grammar , logic , rhetoric , arithmetic , geometry , music and astronomy . The number of students in Ncetsi exceeded three hundred [1] . His contemporaries described him as “invincible rhetoric,” “interpreter of complex speeches and books,” etc. [5] . He is the author of many works, the most important of which is “Grammar Definition” [7] . The Bible, written by him in 1318 in Gladzor and colored by miniatures of Toros Taronatsi , is considered a masterpiece of the Gladzor School of Writing [8] . In 1321, Esai wrote a letter to the Cilician prince Oshin and his son Hetum , where he criticized the pro-Catholic activity of some Armenian princes of Cilicia [5] . He died in 1338 in Gladzor.
