Yaakov Peri ( Hebrew יעקב פרי ; born February 20, 1944 , Tel Aviv , Mandatory Palestine ) is an Israeli politician and statesman, former head of the Shabak Israeli general security service, a member of the Knesset on the 19th and 20th of the convocations, Minister of Science, Technology and Outer Space of Israel in the thirty-third government of Israel .

Biography
Yaakov Peri was born on February 20, 1944 in Tel Aviv, on the territory of Mandatory Palestine . He served in the Israel Defense Forces , and then studied at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem , and then at Tel Aviv University [2] .
Since 1968 he worked in the Shabak , including since 1972 in senior positions. In 1975 he became the head of the training department, and since 1978 the head of the Shabak in the Northern District of Israel . Since 1981, he headed the SHABAK in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria . Since 1987, he worked as a deputy of the ShABAK, and from the next year - his boss [2] .
In 1994, he began to study at Harvard University , received a diploma in economics and business management . He retired in 1995 , his successor was Karmi Gilon [2] .
After leaving the service, Peri headed Cellcom , and in 2003 transferred to work at Mizrahi Tfahot Bank. In addition, he served on the board of directors of Lipman Andas Electronit Ltd., and also worked in a number of other companies [3] .
He was a member of the Kadima party (since 2011 ) [4] . In 2012, he joined the Yesh Atid party and took fifth place on its election list [5] [6] . Since Yes Atid received 19 seats, Peri joined the parliament. During the formation of the third government of Netanyahu, he received the post of Minister of Science, Technology and Space [7] .
Peri is married, lives in Tel Aviv , and speaks Hebrew , Yiddish , English, and Arabic. [8]
