March on Drina

March on Drina ( Serb. March on Drina ) [1] [2] - the famous Serbian military march, written by the composer Stanislav Binichka in 1915 in honor of the Serbian army. The march is dedicated to the victories of the Serbian army over the Austro-Hungarian troops in the First World War [3] (in particular, the victory at the Battle of Cer ) and the Serbian commander of the 2nd Iron Regiment Milivoje Stojanovic. The text for the march was written in 1964 by Miloje Popovich [4] .

Covers

  • The most famous cover is a jazzman cover by Jürgen Ingmann , performed on an electric guitar and released as a single in 1963. The single won first place in the Danish charts .
  • A year later, there was a cover from the Swedish group " The Spotniks "
  • In 1966, a cover was released from the British groups Shadows in the album “Shadow Music”.
  • In 1968, a cover from Chet Atkins was released as part of the album From Nashville with love.
  • In the same year, a cover version was performed by the orchestra conducted by James Last .
  • In 1976, a Czechoslovak singer Karel Gott performed a German-language cover with new words. The cover was a part of the album “Jetzt kommen die lustigen Tage”, released by Polydor Records .
  • In 1994, the Slovenian industrial rock band Laibach released an album by NATO , which consisted of covers of many well-known songs, and the “March on the Drina” as well.
