Islam in Slovenia

Islam in Slovenia is the second largest religion of the country after Christianity. In Slovenia, several Islamic religious organizations operate: the Islamic community of Slovenia ( Slovenian. Islamska skupnost v Republiki Sloveniji ) and the Muslim community of Slovenia ( Slovenian. Slovenska muslimanska skupnost ). Both organizations operate within the framework of the Hanafi law school (madhhab).

In the second half of the 20th century, the number of Muslims in Slovenia increased markedly due to an increase in the number of migrants from other republics of Yugoslavia.

Muslims make up about 3% of the republic’s population, most of them are Bosnians.

In 2004, the municipality of Ljubljana issued an official mandate for the construction of a mosque, but due to protests by the Catholic part of the population, construction had to be postponed for several years [1] [2] .
