Physico-geographical characteristics
The lake is located on the hill of Otepää. It belongs to the old lakes of Estonia, whose development began in the Pleistocene [3] .
The lake has an oblong shape, elongated from the southwest to northeast. The north-eastern part of the lake is more elongated than the south-western [3] .
The length of the reservoir is 829 m, the greatest width is 290 m. The average depth of the lake is 3.5 m [2] .
Flora and Fauna
The amount of phytoplankton in the lake is from medium to high. In the samples obtained during the flowering of blue-green algae , 62 taxa were found. In open water, blue-green algae dominated. The number of green algae increased in the coastal zone, but blue-green algae remained the dominant species [3] .
The amount of zooplankton is average. As a result of the research of A. Määmets of 1958, 18 species were found in the lake. In open water and in the coastal zone, branched crayfish dominated [3] .
The number of plants is average. A total of 17 species of macrophytes were found, growing on a third of the lake area. The maximum depth at which plants grow is 2.2 meters [3] .
The fish fauna is rich in species. Here are found perch, bream, roach, pike and tench [1] [3] .
