History
According to Muslim tradition, Azar made idols , and the boy Ibrahim sold them in the market [1] . The Prophet Ibrahim urged him to abandon idol worship, but he did not heed: “ Here Ibrahim (Abraham) told his father Azar:“ Do you really consider idols to be gods? I see that you and your people are in an obvious delusion " " [2] .
In the Bible , the name of Abraham’s father is Terah [1] . Some Muslim commentators (mufassirs) explained the discrepancy by the fact that Hazard is his nickname or title at the court of the king [1] . Other scholars (for example, al-Suyuti , who referred to Ibn Abbas ) believed that Azar was not actually the father of Ibrahim, but his stepfather or uncle [3] . The father is called Tarukha (Farrah), who died before Ibrahim came of age, was a righteous and pious man, and was not an idolater [4] .
It is possible that this name comes from the name of the servant of Ibrahim - Eliezer (Lazarus). Discrepancies in the naming of the father of the prophet Ibrahim indicate that, in the part of the legend about Ibrahim, the Koran is not based on written texts that describe the biblical story of Abraham [1] .
