General information

Chateau Lanke is located within the boundaries of the historical region of Purple Perigord and is sometimes called the “Perigord incomplete Louvre” [2] .

The construction of the castle was carried out in stages in unlike each other historical periods. For this reason, the main building of the 15th century, which has all the means of defense inherent in the fortified castle , and the Italian palace in the Renaissance style are located nearby.

Being in the courtyard, you can notice big differences between the two parts of the castle:

  • to the right is a medieval castle built in the XIV-XV centuries, right up to the staircase tower,
  • to the left is the Renaissance castle, the construction of which began during the reign of Charles IX and ended in 1604. The construction resembles the wing of the Louvre , built by Pierre Lescaut .
