Biography

Ivan Jozsef Tomajic was born on August 1, 1876 in the city of Ormož, Austria-Hungary. On December 5, 1898, he was ordained priest , after which he served as a military chaplain. From 1906 he taught theology in Innsbruck. Since 1905, was secretary of the Bishop Lavant. In 1915, Ivan Jozsef Tomazhich received the title of canon of the cathedral. From 1920 to 1922 he taught the history of the Church in Marburg. In 1925, Ivan Jozsef Tomazhich became prelate.

On June 8, 1928, Pope Pius XI appointed Ivan Jozsef Tomajic as auxiliary Bishop of Lavant and a titular Bishop of Bargala . On August 1, 1928, Ivan Jozsef Tomajic was ordained as a bishop by Bishop Lavant Andrei Karlin in co- operation with the Archbishop of Ljubljana Anton Bonaventura Eglich and Bishop Krk Josip Srebrnichem. After his ordination, Ivan Jozsef Tomajic was the Vicar General of the Lavant Diocese. Under the leadership of Ivan József Tomažić, a seminary was built in Marburg, the Catholic organization “Catholic Action”, the youth organization “Mladce” were founded and the Society of St. Cyril was founded, founded earlier by the blessed Anthony Martin Slomšek .

He died in Maribor on February 27, 1949.
