Asen Pavlov Karastoyanov (June 3, 1893, Samokov , Bulgaria - September 8, 1976, Sofia , Bulgaria) - Bulgarian composer, conductor, teacher, music theorist. Laureate of the Dimitrov Prize (1950), People's Artist of the NRB (1963), Hero of Socialist Labor (1973).

He studied flute at the Sofia College of Music, continued his musical education in Berlin with Pavel Yuon and in Leipzig with Gunther Rafael . In Paris, he studied composition with Paul Duke at the Normal School of Music and counterpoint with P. Le Flem in Schola Cantorum . Since 1933, he taught at the State Music Academy in Sofia, since 1944 - professor of polyphony. Author of stage music, choral, symphonic and instrumental musical works, mass songs, books and textbooks on the theory of music. The book "Polyphonic Harmony" was published in translation into Russian [1] .
