Kandava District ( Latvian. Kandavas rajons ) - the former administrative region of the Latvian SSR .
History
Kandava district was formed by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of Lat. SSR of December 31, 1949 [1] .
The district consisted of the cities of Kandava and Sabile , Abava, Aizdzirsky, Aizput, Balgalsky, Van, Virba, Dzirciemsky, Zantsky, Zemitsky, Zentensky, Kandava, Ligsky, Matkulsky, Pursky, Strazdsky, Tsersky and Yaunpagast village councils. The district center was the city of Kandava [2] .
The distance from Riga by rail was 92 km. The nearest train station was Kandava , located 7 km from the district center.
